Guest Review : Too Faced Matte Eye Shadow Collection

Much as I love Too Faced Eye Shadow Collections, I have to admit matte eye shadows are not easy to work with but they can be quite useful when paired with eye shadows which contain too much shimmer. As with all other Too Faced Eye Shadow Collections, Too Faced Matte Eye Shadow Collection has 9 warm and cool eye shadows in total together with 3 how-to cards so that you can recreate the looks. Fatin experiments with the looks – Day, Classic and Fashion.

Here’s something I have never worked with before, matte eye shadows. What better way to experiment than with Too Faced Matte Eye Shadow Collection. I wanted to get this review out sooner but the matte eye shadows really needed some getting use to. I think I eventually got the hang of it.

This nine-piece collection of modern matte eye shadows in warm and cool tones is in easy-to-wear sueded neutrals. It includes a set of step-by-step instructions on how to achieve the looks this collection is made for. Unlike other palettes the colours do not come in a uniformed size. The three base colours come in a 0.07 oz pan while the rest comes in 0.03 oz pan. It comes in a really pretty cardboard case. Seems to be holding up quite well.

The colours:

  • Tuffed Suede – Matte Caramel
  • Chinchilla – Matte Warm Brown
  • Coffee Bean – Matte Coffee

  • Velveteen Bunny – Matter Vanilla
  • Pebbles – Matte Stone Grey London
  • Fog – Matte Navy

  • Fresh Linen – Matte Light Pink
  •  Vintage Violet – Matte Violet
  •  Midnight – Matte Soft Black

I found the texture to be fine and smooth. It applies with ease once you get the hang of it. My first attempt was somewhat a near blotchy disaster. Lol! It’s best to have an eye primer on for the colour to show. The lighter colours, Tuffed Suede, Velveteen Bunny and Fresh Linen, however required quite a bit of layering before it showed on my lids. I didn’t have any problems with the other colours though. I also noticed it took me a tad longer to blend these matte eye shadows compared to the satin kind. Still working on it.

The best part about this palette are the How-to Cards. It shows you how to achieve three different looks with the colours which have been conveniently grouped in threes for the specific looks. The instructions are simple and they are a no brainer to follow. I suppose it is possible to for you to mix the colours around to create your own look but I foresee a limited choice though since the colour groups complement each other well.

I tried out the three looks – Day, Classic and Fashion paired with Too Faced Natural Kiss Neutral Lip Colour Collection which I will review next.

Too Faced Matte Eye Shadow Collection retails at RM128 at Sephora outlets.
