You might be wondering why it’s so difficult to get along with certain people, it could be your spouse, boss, colleagues, child. Good communication is an important part of all relationships and is essential for a healthy partnership. All relationships have their ups and downs, but a healthy communication style can make it easier to deal with conflict, and build a stronger and healthier partnership. However, one of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to communicate with others is assume that their way of communicating is the only way to get the message across, thus resulting in communication breakdown. What if these issues can be solved by understanding the ego structure of the person through the Enneagram approach?

I was invited to a preview of a 2-day talk that will take place on 20 & 21 November 2019 at Pullman Hotel, Bangsar KL by Enneagram Master Trainer and Relationship Coach, Cindy Leong from Singapore. Cindy is a published author of 2 books and provides insights into the Enneagram, workplace conflicts and relationships. So what exactly is the Enneagram?

The Enneagram refers to the nine different types of styles, with each representing a worldview and archetype that resonates with the way people think, feel and act in relation to the world, others and themselves. It is much more than a personality profile that offers insight into core personality traits, as it delves deeper into the core motivations, defense mechanisms and fears that often lie in the unconscious layers of our personality structure. Through this approach, we can access motivation – to explore why a person chooses to act in a certain way and why acting in that way is valued by that individual.

There are 9 different personalities that are determined by taking the Enneagram test:

  1. The Perfectionist (the need to be perfect)
  2. The Helper (the need to be needed)
  3. The Achiever (the need to succeed)
  4. The Individualist (the need to be special)
  5. The Observer (the need to perceive)
  6. The Loyalist (the need for security)
  7. The Enthusiast (the need to be avoid pain)
  8. The Challenger (the need to control)
  9. The Peacemaker (the need to avoid conflict)
At Cindy’s talks, you will be enlightened on the following matters:
  • How is Enneagram different as compared to other personality tests/profiles
  • How can you better handle difficult people at your work place, home or even family members
  • Tips on how to connect with your loved ones by understanding their motivations
  • How to communicate effectively in every relationship
