Dettol Mission For Hygiene School Programme

With Dettol Mission For Hygiene School Programme, the brand is on a mission to educate school children on the importance of hand sanitation to maintain personal cleanliness and health. The trusted health champion has partnered the Malaysian Ministry of Education (MOE) to reach out to children via this school programme which pledges to reach 1.5 million children in five years.

Through this programme, school children learn about germs and bacteria that their hands come into contact every day and the importance of washing their hands, especially before they consume food. Besides education on hand hygiene and sanitation, the programme also encourages schools to generate their own awareness campaign to continue to inculcate the good habit of hand washing.

Dettol Mission For Hygiene School Programme is definitely in line with the ‘Hygiene’ pillar of the MOE’s 3K Programme – Kebersihan, Kesihatan & Keselamatan (Hygiene, Health & Safety).

Currently in its 2nd year running, Mission for Hygiene has reached 210,000 primary school children this year with the involvement of their parents, compared with 54,200 students in 2014. The programme has also received support from the MOE at every level to ensure it runs successfully in schools with a wider reach this year.

In order to make the learning process fun and memorable, Dettol has designed a number of exciting activities for the children such as hand hygiene education sketch (to engage students so that they understand the importance of hand hygiene), germ UV demonstration(to illustrate how germs spread easily through touching), 7 steps of hand washing (a full demonstration to teach children the correct way of hand washing), goodie bags (containing educational leaflets to educate parents and ensure the habit of hand hygiene continues at home) and continuous reminders (with posters in toilets and canteens to serve as constant reminders). By the end of  the year, Dettol will have also organized Hygiene Talks in 200 schools and Canteen Days in 53 schools.

To further drive the message home, the Dettol School Challenge was introduced earlier this year, where schools competed against each other to create the most effective hygiene campaign. The schools that participated were required to plan their own campaigns, which served to raise awareness among students and parents on the importance of hand hygiene. The winners were then chosen based on the overall campaign idea and activities.
