Juliet’s 2nd Acupuncture Session With Dr Susanna At Asia Paws

All pet owners except for the mean ones will want to prolong their pet’s life and although prevention is always better than cure, some ailments will still come about no matter how much care we have taken. Since Juliet’s onset of arthritis, I have given her a lot more attention and love. It is important to talk to the pet and tell them to be strong. Even if they can’t nod their head, they will somehow know that you are sending them positive vibes which is what I do for Juliet all the time. I want her to stay cheerful despite her condition and in this way, give her hope that one day she can move about normally like before.

This morning, I brought Juliet for her 2nd Acupuncture Session With Dr Susanna At Asia Paws. Once again, Juliet didn’t flinch or wince when the needles went in. She is so sweet natured that she won’t growl even when someone pokes a needle into her. Dr Susanna took Juliet’s pulse and said that the pulse on her left hind leg is still weaker than her right hind leg so there is a qi imbalance.

During the 20 minute session, I sat by her side. She licked my face and hands, she is an absolute darling and she has always been like a ray of sunshine in my life. Since the day I met her, she has been such a happy dog and the most unfussy dog I have ever seen as she will eat anything fed to her.

This time, I asked Dr Susanna if she could prescribe some natural painkiller for Juliet as she has been on Rimadyl for the past 3 weeks. Rimadyl is the most prescribed painkiller, anti-inflammatory medication for animals but the side effects scare me as it can lead to ulceration of the liver and kidneys and the thought that it can potentially do more harm than good terrifies me. Eliminating or alleviating her pain is one thing but I don’t want a more serious set of problems. Also, the cost of Rimadyl is seriously prohibitive and exorbitant as I had to pay RM8 per tablet or RM56 for a 2 week supply. At that kind of cost, I won’t have enough to budget for Juliet’s acupuncture sessions.

At my behest, Dr Susanna prescribed Ba Wei Di Huang Wan. Symptoms indicating the use of Ba Wei Di Huang Wan powder include:-

  • Hind limb weakness
  • Degenerative Myelopathy
  • Diabetes Mellitus
  • Asthma
  • Mild to moderate Azotemia
  • Urinary incontinence
  • (Chronic) kidney failure
  • Loss of general alertness and mobility

Ingredients in Ba Wei Di Huang Wan are rehmannia, Chinese yam rhizome, Cornus, Poria, Alisma tuber, Moutan bark, Cinnamon bark, Aconite root. All ingredients are organically grown plant parts. I feel a lot less worried feeding Juliet only natural medication.  The powder can be mixed into her food or honey. I am going to start Juliet on Ba Wei Di Huang Wan as soon as she finishes the Rimadyl this week.

    1. Only used one bottle so didn’t see much difference in her condition. I find it difficult to administer as I have to mix with honey and it’s very messy to give to her.
