Ku Cha Be Serves Healthy Food At Reasonable Prices

For the past few months, I have wondered about the food at Ku Cha Be @ Danau Business Centre, Taman Desa. I am often in the area as I get my bread from RT Pastry which is on the same road as Ku Cha Be. Ku Cha Be has a “Buy 1 Free 1” offer which is available all day and week on their breakfast staples such as toast/steamed bread, tea and coffee. Many a time as I walked past, the place has been packed with customers.

Ku Cha Be is essentially a café that serves healthy food, it’s all meatless dishes but not to say they serve up typical vegetarian fare. There’s no mock meats, it’s a bit more sophisticated than that. There are quite a few choices on the menu, mostly Asian dishes such as pineapple fried rice, nasi lemak, nyonya curry ramen, green soup ramen, spicy noodle, wantan mee with dumpling, kampung  fried rice. Prices are between RM9-16 which I think is reasonable for healthy fare.

I could see from the photos in the menu that the servings tend to be quite small but if the quality made up for the quantity, then I think that makes up for it. Ordered steamed bread and toast (so only had to pay for 1 set) and was pleasantly surprised to find the steamed bread is beautifully presented with wooden utensils and bowls, you can spread the butter and kaya yourself. The toast was cut into three and I found it a little dry, could have done with more butter. Too bad the toast was not presented the same way as the steamed bread.

The tea was fantastic, it wasn’t the usual average café tea. This one had froth & tasted like quality tea. The nasi lemak has brown rice (not much), water spinach, water spinach, a whole boiled egg and sambal paste which is not that spicy and didn’t taste like the typical sambal. This one tasted more like Nyonya sambal, if I am not mistaken. For RM9, this makes a reasonably priced breakfast or lunch but serving is too small for dinner.

The pineapple fried rice priced at RM13 is slightly salty for my taste but might be fine for other people. The “icing” on the pineapple fried rice is the sprinkling of cashew nuts on top. That makes the dish worth the price as cashew nuts are expensive. Generally the food and drinks are excellent and I wouldn’t mind a repeat visit to try the other dishes.
