In conjunction with this grand event, FM Group and UM will also be hosting a fashion design competition, Cultural Fashion Week, that will equip university students with the foundation to create
their own fashion brands.

Supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), the festival marks the efforts and contributions of the organizers to promote Malaysian culture to local and international visitors, as well as being the platform of creative expression and entrepreneurship for university students to develop essential skills and attributes to excel in the fashion industry.

YBrs. Encik Mohd Yusri bin Mohd Yusoff, Deputy Secretary-General (Culture), Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, shared, “The Precious of Malaysia 2022 will be a prime example of a great tourist attraction for locals and foreigners to perceive and appreciate Malaysia’s immense diversity of cultures, some of which dates back to nearly 600 years ago – all under one roof. Having the festival at University Malaya will not only showcase a unique historical landmark in Kuala Lumpur but also remind and educate the rakyat on the importance of preserving our culture and heritage for generations to come.”

FM Group and UM prioritize the upskilling of the fashion industry as a whole, while also encouraging Malaysian talents to challenge themselves and create outstanding masterpiece designs to ultimately generate a tremendous demand for traditional Malaysian costumes all over the world. As such, the Precious of Malaysia Festival 2022 will also serve as a platform for local designers to express their talent and showcase their best designs for cultural and
traditional costumes that are sure to leave visitors in awe.

Mr. Farel Mikhail, President of Precious of Malaysia said, “We believe this festival serves as a representation of Malaysia, all in one event. Not only do we hope to play a vital role in preserving and displaying our arts, culture, and heritage sites for local and international visitors, but we also hope to drive individuals who have a passion for fashion, to pursue their passions and ultimately convert it into a career by providing them the education needed to reach out for their aspirations.”

Festival-goers can expect a jam-packed immersive cultural experience from 5 – 11 December 2022 at University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, with a myriad of activities that are to come such as cultural fashion shows by local designers, carnival activities & food trucks, a textile exhibition by Museum Textile Negara; traditional performances, booths to shop from, and more.
