Aeon Customer Service Needs Some Serious Improvements

dsc_4564If you only have one hour (as most people do!) to run your errands and have a bit of lunch, then you will know that every minute spent waiting to be served is not healthy for your heart or blood pressure. I’ve experienced waiting a long time to be served at Aeon Customer Service but never as long as today when I went to apply for the Aeon membership card at Mid Valley.

My number was 1069. When I took my number, 1062 was being served. There were 3 staff behind the counter. I didn’t think it’d be more than a half hour wait but was I wrong. Out of the 7 numbers before it was my turn to be served, 2 people didn’t show up at the counter when their numbers were flashed on the screen. Most of the time, only 1 staff was serving and for 2 of the customers being served, it took them 15-20 minutes to complete whatever needed to be done.

Why is it that the person who is called just before my turn takes the longest to be served? 2 of the staff were busy with a mountain of boxes, presumably redemption products with members’ points? The person who held number 1068 took 20 minutes to be served while the other 2 staff were preoccupied with the boxes. Can you imagine only 1 staff serving when there are 4 counters? Why can’t they have a separate counter/section for customers who just want to apply/renew their cards and another counter/section for customers who come for their products which invariably takes a lot of time (I don’t know why!).

The whole process of applying for a membership card at Aeon is hardly pleasant and takes up too much precious time. Their customer service is seriously understaffed and the staff seemed to be oblivious to the increasing number of customers waiting for their turn to be served. This seems to be acceptable here where customers are made to wait for what seems like an eternity. Perhaps they should also invest in a machine that can produce membership cards so that customers can make their payment and be done in 5 minutes (at most) instead of one whole hour. If there are machines outside post offices for people to pay their bills, I don’t see why Aeon can’t have machines so that people can be issued membership cards after inserting the requisite payment. Then the staff can dedicate themselves to packing boxes for all I care.
